Green Bay, Wis. — The Washington Commanders left Lambeau Field with more than a 27-18 loss Thursday night. They also lost three important players to injury, including defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr.

Wise went down midway through the second quarter during a Packers extra-point attempt. He grabbed his left thigh and looked emotional while lying on the field. Nearly the entire Washington sideline came over to support him. Medical staff helped him onto a cart, and he left with his leg heavily wrapped. Fans applauded as he raised his hand on the way out.
Wise signed a one-year deal with Washington this offseason after eight seasons with New England. He started the team’s first two games and brought strength to the defensive edge. Coaches valued his run defense and his ability to pressure quarterbacks.
Second-year lineman Javontae Jean-Baptiste replaced Wise after the injury. The Commanders had praised their defensive line depth before the season. Now, that depth faces an early test.
Injuries didn’t stop there. Tight end John Bates left in the first half with a groin injury. He didn’t return after halftime. Later, in the fourth quarter, wide receiver Noah Brown also exited with a groin issue.
